05.05.2011 By Ioana Tudor

About a quarter of Romanians (26%) are willing to pay up to 10% more for an eco product than for a conventional one, according to a survey conducted by international retail consultancy association Ebeltoft Group.

The survey reveals Romania is ranked fifth, with 120 points, regarding consumers' preoccupation with sustainability. The East European country was outranked only by Mexico (147 points), Brazil (142), Turkey (129) and China (123).

On the other hand, the survey shows Romanians' preoccupation with sustainability does not reflect in their behavior. Romania is ranked last among countries that adopt sustainable living practices in their everyday life.

According to the survey, 38% of Romanians said they adopt only those sustainable living practices that do not affect their comfort.

Sustainability is a key concept that influences consumers' decisions when it comes to choosing a product.

The survey includes 17 countries and polled 8,500 people.
