Romanian beer importer Bavarom Trading, currently undergoing insolvency proceedings, posted a 27% rise in sales in the first quarter, after concluding 2010 with sales of 9 million lei (EUR2.2 million).

"The increase in the first quarter is due to our improved presence on the HoReCa segment," Bavarom general manager Costin Ghindea told a news conference Thursday.

Since the beginning of the year, the company added 13 new beers to its portfolio, and it plans to have a portfolio that includes 20 brands and 48 types of beer.

Bavarom started activity in 2003, and it is owned by Costin Ghindea and Bogdan Radu.

The company's imports are sold in most Romanian hypermarkets and 1,200 HoReCa units nationwide. (EUR1=RON4.1333)
