SABMiller Romania Volumes Drop 8% On The Year In 2010-2011

Brewer SABMiller’s Romanian sale volumes dropped 8% in the fiscal year 2010-2011, compared to the previous fiscal year, mainly because of the economic recession and the government’s austerity measures.

Europe volumes dropped 3% in the year ended in March 31 compared with the year-earlier period, showing the difficult economic context present especially in the first six months of the fiscal year.

Worldwide, SABMiller sales rose 2% in the interval analyzed, while revenue increased by 5%.

SABMiller is active in Romania through Ursus Breweries, which owns four beer plants nationwide. In addition, the group bought local beer maker Bere Azuga in January 2009, through Ursus Breweries.
