Average Net Salary Down Almost 2% In August

Romanian average net salary fell 1.9% to 1,604 lei (EUR362) in August, from RON1,635 a month earlier, the statistics institute INS said Monday.

Gross average salary was down 1.8% to RON2,219, compared with RON2,259 in July, the data showed.

Staff in the telecom and auto production sectors received the highest salary raises in August, up by 8% to 9% from the previous month, while employees in the coal mining industry saw the largest monthly pay decreases, between 8.5% and 13%.

In August compared with the year-earlier month, Romanian average net salary rose 4.6% in nominal terms. (EUR1=RON4.4306)
