Romania’s industrial sector received more orders in the first half of the year compared with the same period of 2014, after a recovery in June, data released by the country’s statistics institute INS showed Friday.

New orders in the durable goods sector were up 19.7% against the first six months of 2014, the data showed. Orders in the intermediary goods sector rose 5.6% in January to June, and consumer goods orders inched 0.4% higher, but capital goods orders were flat against the year-ago period.

In June alone, new orders in the Romanian manufacturing industry went up 5.9% against May, after a 3.7% decline in the previous month.

Orders in the durable goods industry increased 18.8% month-to-month in June, and demand for consumer goods rose 11.8% against May.

Orders in the intermediary goods and capital products sectors went up 7.3% and 3.2%, respectively.

Compared to June 2014, the manufacturing industry received 5.5% more orders, again fueled by the demand for durable goods, which was up 27.6%.

New orders for intermediary goods rose 8.7% on the year in June, while orders in the consumer goods and capital goods sectors increased 4.1% and 2.5%, respectively.
