Tourist Arrivals In Romania Up 8.3% On Year In February

Arrivals at Romanian tourism accommodation establishments rose 8.3% in February from the year-earlier month, while overnight staying increased 11.5% on the year, data from the statistics institute INS showed Tuesday.

Residents accounted for 80.1% of total arrivals at accommodation establishments in February, while foreigners made up for the reminder 19.9%.

The vast majority of foreign visitors (79.6%) came from Europe, the data showed.

Bucharest and county capitals attracted most foreign tourists in February (82.8% of arrivals at accommodation structures), followed by other localities and tourist destinations (10.4%) and mountain resorts (4.4%).

Border crossings of foreigners to Romania went up 9% on the year in February, while Romanian tourist departures aboard increased 8%, INS said.

In the first two months of 2014, tourist arrivals at Romanian accommodation establishments rose 4% compared with the year-earlier period, while overnight accommodations edged up 4.6%.
