Bucharest Council OKs Local Referendum For June 26

05.23.2011 By Bostan Radu

Bucharest's general council on Monday voted in favor of a referendum for the law on the city's administrative organization, to be held on June 26 and consist of two questions.

The referendum will ask Bucharest voters:
- "Do you want the Capital to have seven administrations and 217 councilors elected on party tickets?"
- "Do you want the general council to be elected through a uninominal system, like sector mayors?"

Both these questions were proposed by democrat liberal councilors.

The council approved a budget of 10 million lei (EUR2.4 million) for the referendum.
