Romania’s Government decided Wednesday to assign a total 1.2 billion lei (about EUR300 million) to consolidate five hydrographic basins to help prevent floods.

The Government assigned RON640 million for the basins of rivers Cris, Jiu and Dobrogea and will assign RON570 million in two weeks for the basins of rivers Siret and Mures.

Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely said the money has been allotted through the National Infrastructure Development Program.

Auctions for works on the first three basins will be launched this week though the online public procurement system, Borbely said.
