BNR: Bank Payment Refusals Rise To RON614.5M In March

Romanian lenders refused to pay promissory notes, checks and notes of exchange amounting to 614.5 million lei (EUR150.2 million) in March, up 15.3% on the month, central bank data showed Thursday.

In February, the banks refused payments amounting to RON533 million, the lowest level since October 2008.

The lenders refused total payments worth RON1.76 billion in the first quarter, down from RON2.3 billion in the year-earlier period.

In 2010, Romanian bank payment refusals reached RON9.57 billion, up 1.6% on the year. (EUR1=RON4.0906)
