The European Investment Bank on Friday said it has granted loans worth a total EUR410 million in Romania last year, down from EUR1.5 billion allocated in 2009.

This year, the bank plans to increase funding at between EUR800 million and EUR1 billion.

The EIB believes adequate funding levels for Romania would be of at least EUR800 million, and the overall amount of loans issued in 2008 and 2009 overshot this threshold, bank vice-president Mathias Kollatz-Ahnen said.

The bank is currently negotiating to fund ten projects nationwide.

Since 1990, the bank has issued loans worth a total EUR8.1 billion in Romania.
