Bucharest Stocks Close Slightly Down, Traded Value Keeps Falling

05.05.2011 By Andrei Circhelan

Bucharest-traded shares closed Thursday slightly down from yesterday’s closing levels, as activity in the market continued to decrease, with investors mostly focusing on investment fund Fondul Proprietatea (FP.RO) and the five regional investment funds, or SIFs.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange's composite index BET-C inched down 0.07%, to 3,424.47, while the 10-share blue-chip tracker BET was down 0.09%, to 5,775.53.

The results of both indexes were impacted by the 0.82% rise seen by oil company OMV Petrom (SNP.RO), which partly countered the 1.17% decline of lender Banca Transilvania's (TLV.RO) shares.

BET-FI, the index tracking the Proprietatea fund and the SIFs, dropped 0.18% on the day, to 25,108.46.

BET-XT, which tracks the top 25 blue-chips, fell 0.15%, to 539.24, while the energy companies index, BET-NG, was the only one with a positive evolution, up 0.38% to 798.97.

Trades unfolded Thursday on the Bucharest bourse amounted to 24.28 million lei (EUR6 million), less than RON30.43 million in the previous session.

The Proprietatea fund was once again the top-traded issuer. Its shares closed flat at RON0.545, on a traded value of RON5.22 million.

The shares of SIF Moldova (SIF2.RO), the second-top traded issuer, rose 0.07% on the day, to RON1.4, on a traded value of RON3.8 million.

Other popular stock Thursday included state-owned gas transporter Transgaz (TGN.RO), down 0.4% to RON248, and lender BRD-Groupe Societe Generale (BRD.RO), up 0.07% to RON14.7.
