The Romanian leu gained slightly in the final hours of Friday session, trading below 4.47 per euro, while other currencies in the region posted significant gains.

The leu closed at 4.465/4.467 to the euro, slightly weaker than 4.4625/4.4655 to the euro at Thursday close.

It had opened at 4.469/4.47 units and slid towards the day’s low at 4.4755 to the euro, before returning below the 4.47 level.

The leu had decoupled from the other currencies in the region, which recouped losses in the previous days and gained up to 0.5% against the euro, dealers said.

Romania’s central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4725 per euro, a fresh low of the past 10 weeks.

Thursday, the official rate was 4.4653 per euro.
