Leu Falls Vs Euro, Ends Above 4.47 Units

The Romanian leu depreciated against the euro Wednesday afternoon, on euro purchase orders placed by corporate clients, dealers said.

The leu closed at 4.4705/4.474 to the euro, weaker than 4.4605/4.4635 to the euro at Tuesday close.

The leu opened at 4.463 to the euro but it gradually lost ground throughout the session.

Romania’s central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4694 per euro, slightly weaker than 4.4653 per euro Tuesday.

On the money market, overnight rates stayed around 2.7%-3.2% a year.
