Leu Stays In Narrow Range, Exchange Rate Weakens Slightly To 4.3897

The Romanian leu traded in a narrow range against the euro Friday morning, and the central bank set the official exchange rate at 4.3897 units.

The reference rate is slightly weaker than Thursday’s 4.3878 per euro.

Against the US dollar, the leu’s exchange rate was set at 3.23 units, about 0.5% weaker on the day.

The leu traded around the 4.39 mark in the first half of Friday session, on reduced volumes. Dealers expect a quiet session today, as the US market is closed for the 4th of July holiday.

On the money market, overnight rates were down to 0.7%-1.2% a year, from 1.3%-1.8% a year on Thursday.
