Romanian accommodation establishments which do not have classification certificates or operate without valid licenses will face higher fines, according to a decision on tourism certification approved by the Government Wednesday.

The proposition was put forward by the Ministry of Tourism and Regional Development and amends a similar normative act.

Accommodation units which operate without classification certificates will be fined between 40,000 lei (about EUR10,000) and RON50,000. The fine is four times higher than the one currently applied.

Fines given to lodging units with expired licenses increased two times. They range between RON20,000 and RON40,000. (EUR1=RON4.1184)
